Youth M.I.C.
About
Youth M.I.C. provides a safe space for teens to enjoy art activities facilitated by local artists where we combine art, mindfulness and mentorship.
Youth MIC delivers meaningful programming geared for teens that combines art and mindfulness. Youth MIC offers Saturday and after school options to fill a niche in the market to provide programming that both boosts mental health and introduces youth to different career paths.
Considering the fact that giving teenagers art and mindfulness skills to help them cope with life’s disappointments and build resiliency, will in turn produce more emotionally balanced, empathetic young adults, it is a matter of great public interest to make this programming not only readily available but to make it free and easy to access. Youth MIC will promote its locations, availability and variety of art forms through a mix of industry conferences, direct proposals to schools and after school programs and social media advertisements.

Our Story
Our Mission
Through the work of our mentors, our mission is to provide art focused programming for teens infused with mindfulness practices and strong relationship building exercises that will afford them the leadership skills and resources to use their voices for the betterment of themselves and their community.
Youth MIC is a service organization that also fits into the model of social enterprise because it provides a safe space for teens to enjoy art activities facilitated by local artists where we combine art, mindfulness and mentorship. As Youth MIC grows financially, excess profits will be used to open more locations to provide more art and mindfulness practices to more youth in need. Satisfying this need will positively impact the mental health and leadership skills that our youth need; benefitting their community as a whole.
Existing Problems:
- teens have little to no programming that is specific to them
- teen suicide rates are high and climbing
- teen crime rates are on the rise
- teens are struggling with mental health and negative self-views
- parent and teen communication is a struggle
- teens feel unheard and that their actions are inconsequential
Youth MIC solutions:
- offering safe space to talk, learn, create
- specific to teens allowing for more meaningful and age-appropriate conversations/discussions
- teaching mindfulness and other SEL skills to build self-awareness leading to self confidence
- using a youth-led model and giving youth agency over their work and their lives
- teaching leadership skills and goal planning which reduces risk
